I facilitated a Art-Science Collaboration event for the Studio Quantum programme in Bengaluru. The Goethe-Institut Bangalore hosted this event in collaboration with the Science Gallery Bengaluru on December 7, 2023 where ten artists / scientists discussed the possibility of making this field more accessible and multidisciplinary. Studio Quantum, was an international events and artist-in-residence programme from the Goethe-Institut, aimed at exploring emerging quantum technologies through the lens of art.
The aim of the event was to: ● examine how various sectors can work together in a meaningful way to support artists and foster public understanding and dialogue around emerging quantum technologies ● imagine what a successful residency programme in Bangalore could look like ● explore what kind of technical and non-technical support would be required to allow artists of all disciplines to develop work about or with quantum technologies. I developed and conceptualised Science Gallery Bengaluru’s Xperimenter Programme, a learning and mentorship programe that offered young adults the chance to interact with leading experts working in diverse disciplinary fields. Through a series of workshops, proseminars, and mentorship meetings, the Xperimenters developed skills in writing, communication, design thinking, and more.
The Xperimenters, a group of dynamic young adults, also advised Science Gallery Bengaluru on their public engagement priorities. They served as ambassadors to the gallery, and helped in shaping public programmes by bringing young voices to the forefront. The pilot Xperimenter Programme was selected as a finalist for the Falling Walls Future Learning category Read more: https://bengaluru.sciencegallery.com/xperimenter-programme As a co-Investigator on the IIHS - GCRF's "Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future" grant we developed a residential summer school exploring the role of carbon in the Anthropocene. By bringing together theoretical frameworks, the lab, the field, and the archives, we constructed an interdisciplinary and socially engaged way to think about carbon.
Using the rich resources of research and cultural institutions as well as community initiatives in Bangalore, the school explored how carbon is an integral part of the city. The 20 participants of the Summer School came from across the country and had diverse backgrounds, as well as keen interests in ecology, sustainability, policy, and more. Participants in the school got to learn from the foremost scholars, artists, and activists who are studying carbon through the lenses of sustainability and climate change. Read more: https://tesfindia.iihs.co.in/summer-school-on-carbon/ I supported Dr Jahnavi Phalkey on the development of a crowd-sourced Oral History Archiving Project called Re:Collect India. I worked on the programme design, the website design and resource development for the project. Re:Collect India is a Citizen Archivist project that aims to preserve our legacy by collecting stories of the first generation of free India’s scientists, engineers, and technicians about their life and work in science.
This project will be led primarily by young people—to collect stories, unearth objects, and capture India’s rich history of science, technology, and engineering. It is an initiative to capture an important part of India’s scientific legacy, and an opportunity for an inter-generational conversation about science in our society.
